MESOTHERAPY
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a technique, invented in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor, whereby medication is injected into the mesoderm, the layer of fat and connective tissue under the skin. Over the past 50+ years in excess of 15, 000 physicians world-wide have used Mesotherapy on a daily basis for a variety of purposes, including overall weight reduction, cellulite reduction, hair loss, scar revision and wrinkle elimination.
In 1987, the French Academy of Medicine recognized Mesotherapy as an inherent part of traditional medicine. The International Society of Mesotherapy encompasses 14 countries throughout Europe and South America.
In Mesotherapy, very small doses of different medications are administered in specific areas, depending on the conditions being treated. The medicines and plant extracts that we use are FDA approved and are obtained from local pharmaceutical companies.
How does Mesotherapy with Phosphatidylcholine work?
The phosphatidylcholine breaks down the fat beneath the skin and shrinks the fat cells in the Scarpa's fascia layer. The fat dissolves and, as occurs when fat is broken down during typical weight loss is carried through the bloodstream and excreted by the kidneys and bowel. To enhance the absorption of fat, a multivitamin injection will be given intramuscularly.
Cellulite is caused by connective tissue bands that hold down the skin, trapping the fat and thereby causing a "dimpling" effect. The medications used in Mesotherapy destroy the connective tissue bands and melt the trapped fat, creating a smooth, dimple-free appearance.
What is the treatment like?
Using a very tiny needle (0.4 to 0.6 cm or the size of an eyelash), the medication is injected into the mesoderm painlessly. Expect to feel some burning and or discomfort for 20 minutes after treatment. There may also be some lingering pain experienced for 48 hours after treatment. In such cases use a non anti-inflammatory pain reliever such as Tylenol for discomfort.
All patients undergoing Mesotherapy will be asked to follow a natural healthy diet, which will be easy to follow; and because toxins are eliminated lots of water is used to flush these substances, along with dissolved fat, out of the body. Exercise is needed to circulate the medications used, with walking or another form of aerobic activity, three times a week.
Who can have Mesotherapy?
Any adult between the ages of 18 - 75 and in good health can be a candidate for Mesotherapy for weight loss, spot weight reduction, and cellulite reduction. During the initial consultation, we will review your past and present medical conditions as well as any medications being taken. Please see the following paragraph for those who are NOT candidates for Mesotherapy.
Who cannot have Mesotherapy?
The following patients can NOT have Mesotherapy.
- Patients who are pregnant.
- Patients that are insulin-dependent diabetics.
- Patients with a history of a stroke.
- Patients with a history of recent cancer.
- Patients with a history of blood clots.
- Patients that are on multiple medications for heart disease.
For Cellulite:
Mesotherapy is a permanent solution that eliminates dimpling fat under the skin. Cellulite is an accumulation of fat, fluid, and toxins trapped in a hardened network of connective tissue fibers in the Mesoderm layer. Lymphatic and venous circulation is poor in these areas. Mesotherapy is used to cause an increase in venous and lymphatic flow, as well as the elimination of fat and dimpling in the area. In four weeks, a patient's skin appears significantly smoother. Most patients lose anywhere from two to four inches where their cellulite is treated.
For spot weight reduction:
Mesotherapy is an alternative to liposuction. Fat and cellulite are eliminated from targeted sites using the same techniques as above. Unlike liposuction, only the fat (not the fat cells) is removed. After 4-6 sessions, typical patients can lose two to six inches in their saddle bags, hips, thighs, waist, love handles, back fat and chin when medicine is placed in those areas.
What should be expected following a treatment?
There may be minor pain, throbbing and tenderness in the treated areas with some bruising.
How often can a treatment be done?
Mesotherapy is administered at two week intervals.
Will the fat in the treated areas return?
No, the dissolved fat has not been reported to return. But new weight gain can fill up new fat in the same areas. Exercise and diet in addition to Mesotherapy treatment have shown the best long term results.
